Candidates to form ‘united front’

Les Oroszvary calls it a ‘‘like-minded group of people’’ with ‘‘different backgrounds’’, but all with a mutual desire to progress Shepparton.

They are not quite calling it a ticket.

But rather, it’s a group of seven like-minded people and an assurance they can work together if elected to the next Greater Shepparton City Council.

Ahead of this month’s council election, seven candidates will be forming something of a united front in seeking election.

It includes current councillors Les Oroszvary and Dennis Patterson and candidates Rod Schubert, Bruce Giovanetti, Anthony Brophy, Shelley Sutton and Kim O’Keeffe, in no particular order.

Mr Oroszvary calls it a ‘‘like-minded group of people’’ with ‘‘different backgrounds’’, but all with a mutual desire to progress Shepparton.

He said he hadn’t turned his mind to the remaining two positions on a prospective council.

The only councillor to be elected on first preferences in 2012, Mr Oroszvary recalled four years ago ahead of the election candidates being ‘‘inundated with phone calls ... trying to arrange preference agreements.’’

Mr Oroszvary said the main criteria in regard to the group standing for election was that it resembled people with the ability to work together.

‘‘We’re like-minded people... with different backgrounds, but with the fundamental point we’re all keen to work together in a team-oriented approach,’’ he said.
