After almost 10 years living in the region, Shoukat Rafiee wants to be elected to Greater Shepparton City Council next month, seeking to ensure representation for all ratepayers.
Originally from Afghanistan, Mr Rafiee moved to the Goulburn Valley after coming to Australia 11 years ago.
The busy family man has three children, runs a labour-hire business and works as an interpreter across the region.
He also regularly volunteers within his own community.
‘‘I wish to contribute my best efforts to a wonderful multicultural area,’’ he says.
Mr Rafiee said he sought to improve the standard of community services delivered in Greater Shepparton, especially to local business and sports facilities for young people.
He also wants to ensure good town planning outcomes, better roads, strong multicultural relationship and safer neighbourhoods.
