Mr Schubert says he will bring some much-needed ‘‘big business’’ experience if elected as a Greater Shepparton City councillor.
His bid to be a council representative for Tatura has been supported by Cr Kevin Ryan.
Mr Schubert has lived in the Goulburn Valley for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in human resources.
He has sat on the boards of some of the region’s largest employers, but said a seat on council would provide him with an equally welcome learning curve.
Mr Schubert believes the municipality’s non-Shepparton centres have been under-represented and if elected, he will provide a voice for those areas.
‘‘Council needs a representational rural voice as well as urban representation,’’ he said.
Mr Schubert believes Greater Shepparton is yet to reach its full potential, and could be better known for major events, tourism, food, wine, a conference hub and the arts.
Mr Schubert hopes to represent small business interests, such as Maude St Mall traders, and believes the new Shepparton Art Museum project could be an economic driver.
