Mr Linton has spent the better part of a decade covering Greater Shepparton City Council for Shepparton News.
After encouraging those in the community with the capacity and desire to serve to put their hands up for council, he has taken his own advice, judging there is no longer the potential for conflict between his job and serving on council.
Mr Linton says his years of analysing and writing about the council’s operations, processes and decisions would inform his work as a councillor; allowing him to cast a critical eye over information and put it into context of what was best for Greater Shepparton residents.
He said the broad group of candidates contesting the election were standing for the right reasons, but cautioned against single-issue candidates.
Mr Linton says as a councillor he would not sit in any camp. Instead the city needed independent thinkers who would act collaboratively to get the right result for majority of ratepayers.
‘‘The only promise I’ll make is I’ll make independent decisions in the best interest of community...’’ he said.
