Mr Ladson, a teacher, is running for Greater Shepparton City Council with the campaign slogan ‘‘It’s time to put a leash on council spending. Vote 1 Ben Ladson’’.
He grew up in Shepparton, is an avid cyclist and has been involved with the Kiwanis, Rotary and tennis and football clubs.
Mr Ladson was first encouraged to run for council by Councillor Fern Summer and then spoke at a Better Local Government Association function last year.
He says he offers a fresh perspective and ideas, and wants to give the council a greater focus on young people.
Mr Ladson is also vocal about ensuring the region is better funded, as well as advocating for better rail and health services.
He opposes the compulsory organic waste rollout and is the author of a petition against the new Shepparton Art Museum.
‘‘Over 95 per cent of people I’ve spoken with are against the art museum,’’ he said.
Mr Ladson said the council had not considered any new museum would need donations to keep it viable and the city would be better focused on sport and events.
